What are Anthony’s intentions, how does this affect the rest of the play?
“O, pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth, That I am meek and gentle with these butchers !”
I believe that this quote from Anthony’s soliloquy is asking for ceaser to forgive him because he is being quiet and gentle with the conspirators. I think he is being gentle and quiet with the conspirators because he is/was the hand of Ceaser and doesn’t want to be killed himself.
“Thou art the ruins of the noblest man That ever lived in the tide of times”
i believe that in this quote he is saying that there is now only the left overs of the noblest man (ceaser body) that ever lived in the stream of history. I think he has said this because he was quite fond of ceaser and being his right hand gave them a special bond, however now that is all lost as ceaser has been “butchered”. He is using “the tide of times” as a metaphor for saying that it is history that goes on. Also “thou art the ruins” as a metaphor for saying, there is the body. “Ruins” because he has been stabbed therefore he has used the word ruins instead of dead body.
“Woe to the hand that shed this costly blood!”
i think that this quote is declaring who’s hand has commited this blood. I think he used the word costly because from killing ceaser you are giving up a big cost meaning you could be killed or prosecuted. Also, the word “costly blood” is An idian because he saying that Ceasers life was precious. Precious is also a metaphor as he is implying that Ceaser has value to his life.
