image  This is my chat with Gentrit showing my idiolect and my emoticons that I use when I text. I am 14 years of age and so is Gentrit, we are both white and are in year 9. We both message like this using slang and emoticons with shortened words. when Gentrit types “NM” it means “not much” but we use the shortened version “NM” which is much quicker to write and give a response to whoever you are talking to.

we show a good example of adjacency pairs with request\grant and question\answer. Adjacency pairs are where you have two turns produced by two speakers and the utterance is related to the first question or request or e.t.c.

We have a repetition of emoticons where we might be making a facial expression but cant express it in any other way as we are in different places. For example, “do u wanna go out after school?” when i ask this question he will first be thinking about it and because i cant see this he decided to send the emoji where it expresses that he is thinking about it. another example will be at the end of the conversation when Gentrit replies with “yeah sure” with the 100 emoji sign, this emoji is to show that u are certain about something and are 100% sure that you can do it or come along e.t.c. I then end the conversation with “coolio” and the thumbs up emoji to insure him that its all good.
